As a women-led coalition, March On is disgusted by the sexist tone of discussions emerging around Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden’s selection process for vice president. These conversations about whether Black women are “too ambitious” or are smiling enough on TV reflect the male-dominated world of politics and government that has held the glass ceiling firmly in place. We will not stand by silently as women are pitted against each other by men. Fortunately, the women involved are refusing to play along with these worn-out tactics and are rising above to demonstrate for men what solidarity and shared vision actually look like. As usual, women lead the way — and the men of the Democratic party would do well to learn from their leadership and remember what is at stake in this election.
