March On’s Statement On The Loss of John Lewis, Civil Rights Icon

As March On mourns the loss of John Lewis, a forefather of the Civil Rights Movement and a moral compass who guides us to this day, we are following his advice to “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble.” Today, alongside thousands of others across the nation, we are joining the Strike for Black Lives for a walkout and strike for racial, economic and climate justice with John Lewis’s wisdom in our hearts. We strive to live up to his example as we collectively mark this moment as a turning point for justice in the future of our democracy. Black lives and Black futures matter, and we must ensure that our country lives up to its ideals by demanding—through good, necessary trouble—the justice that every American is owed.
